Sacred Origin’s Honey Pear
Honey Pear has a story as sweet as its flavor. While testing my 7-year-old daughter’s taste sensitivity, I first gave her a Brown Turkey fig a friend had shared with me. I asked her, “What do you taste, and what would you call it?” Her response was blunt: “It’s too watery to be given a name, and I don’t think you should keep it.”
Next, I offered her a fig we were trialing. She immediately exclaimed, “This is so good! I taste honey and pears. It is so pretty.” And just like that, Honey Pear was named.
This fig was originally released under the name Golden Dawn years ago when a few cuttings were shared with the public. That name has since been retired due to unintended associations with certain political groups, making Honey Pear its fitting and delightful new identity.
Characteristics:
No mold, tight eye, thick, chewy skin
Distinctive floral notes with honey and pear flavors
Performs exceptionally well in humid, rainy climates and tolerates overwatering
Honey Pear has drawn attention beyond our nursery; Millennial Gardener even featured a YouTube review of this remarkable fig. You can also explore a discussion about it on OurFigs

A fig that is as charming in story as it is on the palate, Honey Pear exemplifies the joy of discovery and the subtle artistry of flavor that Sacred Origin strives to cultivate.
