Jadeberry is a striking  fig known for its smooth jade-green skin and deep ruby-red flesh, offering a bright, berry-forward sweetness that sets it apart. Its flavor has the richness of strawberry preserves with a clean, refreshing finish—sweet, vibrant, and unmistakably fruity. The tree produces a prolific main crop.

The origins of Jadeberry trace back to the historic mining settlement of Igo, California, a rugged foothill community shaped in the mid-1800s by gold seekers, ranch families, and a significant number of Chinese miners. During that era, Chinese workers often planted figs, mulberries, and familiar food crops around camps and cabins to bring comfort and survival to their daily lives.

Local tradition holds that Jadeberry may be a living relic of those mining days—either a seedling that sprouted near an old homestead or a cutting carried from afar by early laborers. Its colors echo the land and history around it: jade-green like the rolling hills, red like the mineral veins that drew people west, and sweet as the orchards settlers tended in the dusty California summers.

Today, Jadeberry survives as both a beautiful fruit and a quiet piece of Igo’s past—a flavorful reminder of resilience, heritage, and the diverse hands that shaped the region.
