Some figs are delicious, some are complex, and then there are figs like Crema di Fragola ( Creme di Fragola ) that make you wonder how a fruit can taste this incredible.

Large, beautiful green figs conceal a jammy, bright blood-red interior bursting with concentrated strawberry flavor and delicate tart rhubarb notes. Think homemade strawberry-rhubarb pie topped with a generous dollop of cream. As the figs ripen and begin to dehydrate on the tree, their flavor becomes even more concentrated, revealing intriguing background notes of cinnamon, bergamot, and perilla. One reviewer even detected hints of guava.

The flavor is rich, complex, intensely fruity, and beautifully balanced. What makes this fig particularly impressive is that its flavor remains exceptional even without caprification. Despite its potential to produce large fruit, it retains the concentrated flavor that larger figs often lack.

The skin is thick, chewy, and surprisingly delicious — so good that even people who normally discard fig skins may find themselves eating every last bite. One of my favorite reviews came from a customer whose three-year-old would usually eat only the inside of a fig and hand over the skin. With Crema di Fragola, she happily devours the entire half, skin and all!

The eye is tight, and the figs I have harvested have shown no signs of insects, rot, or mold. Combined with its thicker skin and tendency to dry beautifully on the tree, Crema di Fragola shows promising potential for growers in wetter climates, although rain resistance will need further testing.

The tree is productive, and I suspect the fruit could become enormous with more generous watering. Even under my growing conditions, the flavor remains remarkably concentrated. This appears to be a midseason variety, with some fruit continuing to ripen into early September.

There is also a fascinating story behind this fig. Crema di Fragola appears to be a chance seedling growing among olive trees in a very old orchard in Northern California's olive capital. A remarkable discovery in an unexpected place!

It is a common fig that does not require pollination to produce its delicious fruit.

If I could grow only one fig, Crema di Fragola would be a serious contender. It is one of those rare varieties that combines extraordinary flavor, beautiful appearance, productivity, and an unforgettable eating experience.

A truly delicious, must-have fig for the serious collector and anyone who loves exceptional fruit.
