Crimson Rose

Crimson Rose is a distinctive green-skinned fig with a rich, deep crimson-red interior. The fruit has a fruity, strawberry-like flavor with complex, decadent notes, making it an especially intriguing fig for fresh eating. This is a fig that will keep you reaching for more. 

As the fruit ripens, the green skin develops subtle white striping, while the interior deepens to a striking red. The fruit has a tight, well-closed eye, an appealing characteristic for those who prefer figs with good eye closure.

The pictured fruit came from a stressed and neglected tree growing in a one-gallon container, which makes the quality of the fruit particularly interesting given the less-than-ideal growing conditions. The tree is currently being evaluated for consistency, productivity, and overall performance. It is unknown if it requires the wasp for pollination.

Origin

Crimson Rose has an unusual and interesting origin. The original tree was discovered growing in an open field within a historic district of Corning, California. It appears to be a chance seedling, presumably established naturally from seed—possibly dispersed by birds.

Because this is a seedling selection rather than a known named cultivar, its characteristics are still being evaluated. The combination of its green exterior, deep red interior, strawberry-like flavor, complex sweetness, tight eye, and subtle white ripening stripes makes it a promising and unusual selection worth growing and observing.
