Bodhisattva

Bodhisattva is a newly discovered male capri fig, currently being trialed in multiple locations to determine its persistence. It is too early to know its long-term behavior, but it has already shown promise. Several intriguing and delicious common female figs grow nearby, which is why Bodhisattva has found a place in my nursery, with multiple trees being cultivated for testing.

This fig produces an abundance of fine, sand-like pollen that falls easily when the fig is opened, naturally aiding in pollination—a literal and symbolic sowing of seeds.

The name Bodhisattva carries deep meaning: Bodhi is a Sanskrit word akin to the Zen concept of Satori, representing the end of suffering and the path to enlightenment. Sattva signifies goodness, purity, and peacefulness. It is my hope that Bodhisattva, with its abundant pollen, will serve as a living reminder to sow seeds of goodness and nurture virtuous qualities in ourselves and the world around us.
